The gun of my dreams
By - DarkWellResident
Many 1911s are fundamentally the same. Most companies will offer what you are looking for. Rock Island Armory has some in the cheaper price range but with decent quality. Kimber tends to carry a fair price for what you're getting. I went with a Springfield M1911A1 with slightly adjustable sights but ended up selling it. My step dad has a Colt I enjoy shooting a lot.
As for buying a gun from the USA. I recommend calling shops in the more freedom loving states like Arizona and Texas. You can literally just "Google" gun shop (texas/Arizona) and give them a call and ask about their selection and shipping option. It will not be cheap I assure you.
Thank you so much for the info! I'll look into gunshops in Texas and Arizona! I'm totaly expecting it to be expensive 😊 what kind of pricerange are we talking btw? Roughly estimated :) im betting it will still be cheaper than getting it here.. a run of the mill 1911 from the brands you mentioned are from $1500 - $4000 ..
I built my 1911 from stealtharms ... check their website. All i used was a vice, a hand drill, and some car valve grinder compound that i put in the rails after i cut them, then ran the slide back and forth till the compound smoothed it all out .. and it fires every time ;)
Albeit the price was roughly 1200
If you buy a part here, part there .. it wont be as expensive causr you can budget what you order and when
PLUS it will be non serialized since you built it :) a clean record is a happy record
I'll look more into doing my own build as it sounds way more affordable. But aicm not sure its legal or possible here :) thank you for the reply!
Dang in the usa we are allowed to build our own weapons in our home BUT certain states will ban them for public use. However in arizona my built 1911 is fully legal to conceal carry.
If i want to sell it, then i need to get it serialized
I know! I envy you americans on the right to own, build and bare arms! Its such bullshit we cant do it here...
only some states are that way. In CA i would highly illegal and become a registered Felon .
Thats why i moved to Arizona lol its own lil country our governor signed a bill that blocks any federal laws regarding the 2nd amendment so arizona will always be a sanctuary state
You're going to have a very hard time getting one in/from the USA. I don't know what export options there are, but you cannot buy a gun in the US without being a citizen/green card holder/legal resident, and being able to pass a background check. Your best bet is to go through what ever dealers/suppliers available to you in Norway and see if they can order/import one for you, or if there is one already in the country that fits your needs.
As far as looks go? black with wood grips is pretty easy to accomplish, grips run anywhere from $35 to several hundred bucks, and take 30 seconds to swap out. A gun can be cerakoted to any color you want.
The problem you're going to run into is a 9mm with a 6 or 7" barrel. I don't know if I've EVER seen a 7" barrel, and the only 6" ones tend to be the semi custom ones, like a Dan Wesson, and they typically don't come in 9mm, usually in .45 or 10mm.
I went on gun broker just now, to see, and I found ONE 9mm 6" barrel 1911, and it's a competition shooting model:
By switching to a more standard 5" barrel, the choices opened up to hundreds of options. something like this Rock Island Standard Full sized:
Gets you pretty darn close to what you want, Swap out the grips yourself and call it a day. Here is a pic of MY RIA Standard FS in .45 with wood grips:
Holy shit! Thank you for putting such effort into this! I appreciate it! Yes I've been looking online for 6 and 7 inch barrels in 9mm and its VERY rare... From what i gather by the laws here in Norway its possible for me to go to america with a norwegian gun licence and purchase pne as an import. Or I get in contact with a maker or dealer in the US via a retailer here in Norway and purchase through them. :)
I get thats its a very odd and specific gun. And I'm totaly in for doing work on it as i go after getting the base gun.
I think much of what puls me towards this length and calliber is its rarity. Im the type of guy thats very perticular about what i buy.. i know im weird.. icd rather save for a year or more extra than get a cheaper thing thats bot reeealy what I want.. it feels like a waste. And i lose interest after a short while :/.
I dont know.. I've had this dreamgun in my head for such a long time now. And i just love the 1911. The mechanizms. The sound the slide, the mag and the trigger makes..
Thanks again for replying and tsking my post so serioisly. I'll look more into the links you provided and see what I can make happen :) if ever i get my dreamgun I'll for sure post pictures here!
Much Love from Norway.
Have you ever looked into 80% builds? I’m not sure if they are legal for you guys like they are for us. But I think if you did an 80% build you could make the custom gun the exact way you want it.
Assuming you have the tools and know how to do something like that. But they have jigs and stuff to make it damn near idiot proof.
I havent really looked into it. But I'm guessing you have to be a licenced gun smith to do that where im from. Thank you for reminding me of that option. I'll look into it :)
Maybe a gunsmith license is cheaper then a imported 1911. Then you could make some money in the long run. Lol. Good luck on your journey.
Nah its a whole 2 years in school and 2 years apprentice-ship so im guessing its cheaper to have it done :)
And thanks! Im supriced by how willing people are to help a random Norwegian dude asking stupid questions :)
No stupid questions. Just stupid answers.
If you’re going to spend that amount of cash on your dream gun, have you seen [this](https://www.nighthawkcustom.com/pistols/1911s-government/heinie-long-slide)?
Well yes i have ( ´◡‿ゝ◡`)! Its gorgeous! I have concidered it! Get the cocobolo grips and the engraving and bam! 10mm would be fun. But its more expensive than 9mm and .45 here in Norway. Its not an extreme difference though! Im just being picky. But if calliber is the only thing stopping me from getting the long boy of my dreams I'll get it in whatever calliber :)
That is a damn good looking gun though.
I’m fairly certain nighthawk offers long other barrel versions on their website but that was the first one I saw and linked here. They can make you whatever you’d like.
Thank you. I'll look into it! :)
Custom, 1911, Fair price.... you get to pick 2.
6 to 7” 1911s really don’t exist off the shelf in your config. You would need a custom built which would run 4K minimum, + 1-2k for engraving by another party. It would have to be built ground up, and take maybe a full year minimum
My suggestion is to accept a 5” gun and send off for engraving
